We all know the hits, the songs that get endless airplay on the radio and keep us singing along. But sometimes it's the lesser-known tunes that have the potential to really strike a chord – if only they'd get heard.
With this in mind, we sat down with Charlie Lowell of Jars of Clay to ask him which unsung songs he wished music fans would give another hearing. Here's what he had to say:
"Dig" from Furthermore: From the Studio, From the Stage
This was a cover of an Adam Again song. We listened to them in high school and college. It talked about what it means to doubt. Recently someone said, "I'm thankful for your rendition of 'Dig' and I thought, I need to go back and listen to that!" It was definitely an under-the-radar song, but if you let it sink in, it's worth it.
"Faith Enough" from Who We Are Instead
When we were writing for this album, this song was one of the first we talked about as a single. We had a mid-tempo demo [perfect for radio], but then we took it in another direction completely. The song got us excited because it focuses on the upside-down-ness of the Gospel. The chorus in particular talks about the grace God gives us just when we need it to squeak by. It's just enough to be strong in the broken places.
